Ragnuk Dabaldee sat in his quarters going over former strategies he had used when he felt the ship flutter. He looked away from his work and towards the walls, trying to figure out what could cause a flutter through solid steel. That's when the com speakers aboard the ship came to life.
“My brothers, we have treaded upon the infidels and they have exchanged blows with us, now they have called for their kin’s aid, so we shall do the same! Soon we shall be within range for the boarding crafts to be launched. Prepare my brothers as we shall take the fight to them in and outside their ship. We shall also call for our brothers and we shall all battle with the heretics for the glorious light of the covenant. For their destruction is the will of the gods and we are their instrument.”, the Ship Master Gallus Regallee informed and motivated them in one speech, Ragnuk heard the cheers all the way from the docking bay, it made him chuckle.
“Now go my brothers, go forth and show the infidels why we walk the holy path. They shall receive the honor of being cleansed by our sacred fire!”, Gallus finished, this last bit made Ragnuk laugh a little more before getting up.
He left his quarters and began to walk to the docking bay to rally the soon to be launched boarding parties. Most Elite's talked of honor, but Ragnuk regarded honor with less then flattering sarcasm. He discarded these thoughts and proceeded into the docking bay where a mass of covenant forces stood before him.
The Covenant infantry had come quickly and slowly. The low-ranking Brutes rushing in, the high-ranking Elites modestly coming in at a steady pace, while the cowardly Grunts of all positions came in at a limping pace. The ranging forces of aliens either joined the organized clump by the hallway that led to the jet packs, space-craft and boarding pods, the other half stood attentively in front of their tactical leader. Legions stood attentively while the lance either struggled to mind him, were distracted, or like most of the brutes, ignoring him. Ragnuk ignored this and let out a faint cough in an attempt to grab some of the lances attention.
Ragnuk Dabaldee the great Sangheili Field Master than began; “Unggoy, Kig-Yar, Jiralhanae, and Sangheili. Warrior or weakling, brave hearted or an utter coward. All warriors of the Holy Covenant. It seems a human ship has stumbled upon our great cleansing of the universe. Now they have interrupted us and must be demolished. Some of you may be protecting our holy vassals, many will be sent out to confront the humans and not their machines.” He stopped and many species let out their primary sound, some took on a battle ready stance.
“Those not currently at the primary boarding location or protecting the walls facing the threat shall push on against the human ships with our own.” Ragnuk continued, many heard him nervously shuffling around. “Many shall be loss, though these are sacrifices we must make. We shall thank you during the Great Journey if you do not make it through this battle.”
Some Unggoy cowered, the Brutes seemed to ignore the fact, the Kig-Yar seemed ravenous with hunger, and the Sangheili put their head high either proudly or sorrowfully. They all then prepared for battle, and seemed anxious to fight many for their own reasons. “Now our holy work can begin. We shall cleanse the galaxy of these humans and then find the great relics of our ancestors… You may depart.” The Field Master finished. All the Covenant soldiers filed out the door and did last minute checks.
If they won they would have a great advantage in the war, they would have… Holy salvation!
Meanwhile, within the “Colonial Former’s” Colonel Allen Dartz watched over the marines in the docking bay as they moved about in their daily routines. He had the men stay busy while he pondered why the ship pulled out of slip space, that’s when he heard the com overhead come online and the captain of the former began to speak.
“Attention all crew, a covenant ship has been spotted in the system. All crew are to arm themselves and begin evacuation protocol immediately. This is not a drill, I repeat, the Covenant are here, begin evacuation protocol, all escape pods and pelicans are to go to the planet Lios’ surface. Any crew members that cannot get to an escape pod or a pelican are to barricade themselves into a safe and secured location away from the ship’s hull. The UNSC are coming, we just need to wait, and all marine and ODST forces on board should prepare for battle. We’ll do what we can on the bridge. God speed, and God bless!”, Captain Lawrence Gallagen spoke before snapping the com off.
Colonel Dartz, stood dazed, wondering how things turned out like this when he realized that his men had stopped their routines and stared up at him. Those eyes, a mixture of fright and confusion managed to bring him back from his scare. He collected himself and cleared his throat before speaking.
“Well you heard the man, abandon ship. He said all marine and ODST forces should prepare for battle. So that’s us, prepare for battle, I want marines gathering any and all members of the crew and get them into those escape pods. I also want any weaponry or equipment salvaged from this floating tin can. ODSTs are to hold off covenant forces and secure the cafeteria, the cargo bay, and secure the bridge and delete any and all data that may give away the position of our colonies. When everyone else is out, we’ll take whatever escape pods and HEV pods off this tin and leave it for those scaly bastards to have. Maybe one of our navy buddies will blow it to hell after we’re off. So you have your orders, let’s move!”, Dartz said as he grabbed an assault rifle from a rack and gave the bolt a thwack to send the message home.
Immediately, the cargo room that had silenced was full of twice as much movement as marines armed themselves, gathered into their squads, and began moving throughout the ship searching for crew members to escort to the escape pods. In unison, the ODSTs began forming barricades with sandbags and quick drying concrete. Others were busy setting up newly made machine gun turrets that were meant for Chi Ceti and pointed them out towards the doors. The third group of ODSTs had left with the marines to secure the other two locations. Colonel Dartz stood in the center of the cargo bay and decided that this would be the ideal command center. He prepared to give orders to a group of ODSTs who had finished setting up a turret when the ship shook and the lights flickered. Dartz let out an audible curse as he tried to maintain his balance and failed. He fell to one knee and waited for the ship to steady itself. He got back on his feet and doubled his orders, shouting at anyone who appeared to have finished what they were doing or looked to be doing nothing at all. Dartz had a single thought during all this commotion,
Just look at it this way, it can’t get much worse.
