Within the City Hermon |
Among the many Covenant ships, a single Phantom hovered in place. It’s only passenger looked down at the city through the side hatch and watched the Covenant forces. To the east, the hulking Scarab moved through the streets. To the north were several of the UNSC forces that were desperately trying to retake the city alone. At the center of the city stood the ONI building, columns of smoke had begun arise. To the west, several of the Covenant forces had gathered at the recently constructed Covenant camp for a debriefing. Ragnuk Dabaldee was heading there to give the soldiers their second step of orders, but before that.
“Go to the northern side of the city, I count ten humans in a firefight in the main street. Finish them off quickly and return to your patrol route.”, Ragnuk ordered a Banshee patrol nearby through the com.
“Yes commander, we are in route.”, a Sangheli spoke through the com.
The banshee patrol peeled off and darted off towards the UNSC forces quickly. Ragnuk then signaled the Phantom’s pilot as he shut the hatch and they began drifting down towards the ground. Shortly after the Phantom had touched ground at the Covenant’s camp and Ragnuk exited the drop ship. He was greeted by several Sangheli who bowed their heads in respect and led Ragnuk towards the covenant forces. They traveled to a small city square where hundreds of covenant forces were gathered to hear their orders. Ragnuk was led to a small stage where two Sangheli Major Domos stood at either end of the stage. Ragnuk walked up to the stage and looked at the Covenant soldiers, Unngoy, Kig-Yar, Sangheli, Jiralhanea, and Mgalekgolo, who all stared back at him. Ragnuk opened his com to all Covenant channels so all the Covenant forces would hear his voice.
“My brothers, we have taken this city in the name of the Covenant. But we are not finished yet, there are still humans inside this city. We cannot allow them to foil the Prophets’ plans for we shall be rewarded with our place in paradise. The Prophets have said that the mighty forunners have let ruins deep beneath this city for the Covenant to use. Those ruins will guide us on the path to salvation! But for us to uncover those ruins, we must eliminate the humans. Even as I speak, several of their disgusting vessels draw near with more forces. We shall make them cower from our might and regret fighting us. For we are Covenant!”, Ragnuk spoke into the com and to those in front of him.
Several cheers came through the com and from the crowd. Ragnuk watched the soldiers cheer before raising his hand to silence them. He began to speak again into the com and to the crowd.
“So go on my brothers, go and fight the humans to earn your place in paradise!”, Ragnuk declared to the covenant soldiers and with that he left the stage to return to his mobile command center.
Aboard the UNSCS Frigate "Dawn Treader" |
Within the UNSC Fleet "Blazing Titan" |
The cargo bay of the head of the UNSC fleet “Dawn Treader” was filled with hundreds of UNSC troops, ODST and Marine alike. All eyes were focused on Captain Ramond, who took his leisurely time to light himself a cigarette before giving his speech. He took one long drag before returning their gaze.
“Alright, you all know the drill. For most of you this isn’t your first encounter with the covenant. But those of you, who are meeting them for the first time, don’t expect a picnic party! These are hostile enemy forces that won’t hesitate to shoot you down and kill you at first glance. These are ruthless killers, monsters made real, who won’t think twice of ending your life. They don’t care if you have a family, friends, or loved ones. They only care about killing you.”, the captain said.
This caused many of the new recruits to dread the upcoming fight, but the veterans stayed strong because they knew the best was yet to come. Captain Raymond finished off his cigarette and threw it to the deck before smearing it with his heel. He then took a deep breath and began to speak again, just as loud.
“But those squid faced freaks don’t know who they are messing with. They don’t realize that we are the UNSC forces, that we are the best of the best. They will see us and will be greeted with lead. They will fire at us only to be blown to bits by our fire power. They will run only to be shot in the back. And they will fear us only to die at our feet. For they are messing with the most powerful damn army in the universe! Am I right soldiers?”, the captain roared.
The response was a series of rising “hoorahs” from all the troops as they were motivated to fight. The captain smirked as he heard the chant over and over. He then raised his hand and the troops began to settle down. Once they were quiet he began to speak again.
“Now those split chins have invaded another one of our colonies and are killing innocent people, so it’s our job to go down there and save those people.”, Captain Raymond paused as a quick hoorah was chanted, “And it’s also our job to kill 10 of them for every one of us.”, another hoorah, “They also have a bunch of ONI spooks trapped in the ONI building, so we got to go save them too.”, a half-hearted hoorah was expressed at this, “And then we head out so that these here chunks of metal can nuke the SOB’s!”, the chanting was back at full steam from this declaration and louder than ever.
“Alright, let’s roll out. Your objectives are in your HUD display, fly by scans have given us a visual on the civilians. They have taken residence in the Police headquarters, the stadium, and a UNSC outpost just outside the city limits. The ONI building is located in the center of the city, that’ll be the hard part. Meanwhile, the Covenant AA guns have to be destroyed or we’ll be walking it out of the city. Covenant forces have a half a day start so expect some resistance from the ugly SOB’s! Lastly, but most importantly, we must delete the data at the ONI building. We can’t allow the covenant to get their hand on it. ODSTs will drop directly into the city as they’ll be too hard to track with their AA guns in the HEV pods. Marines will be transported via pelicans outside the city and will proceed on foot and warthog. Scorpions will be supplied after all troops are transferred to the ground. Let’s roll out!”, the captain ordered as all the troops began to stock up and gather their weapons and equipment.
